The Milners in Capetown
BACK GROUND INFORMATION
After both completing their studies at the Bible Institute, Kalk Bay, Brian & Lorraine joined Africa Evangelical Fellowship in 1974. They ministered for 11 years in the Christian Ministry to Miners. Then they had a short time in Child Evangelism Fellowship and went on to minister in Scripture Union for 13 years. After that they returned to AEF at the time that it merged with SIM. They served in the SIM (Serving in Mission) sending office for 6 years and then God called them to start a media ministry, with SIM Ethnic Focus, producing DVD media for outreach and teaching purposes. They have produced media for adults, adolescents and older children up to now. Their next project which they are developing is outreach and teaching for young children. They plan to use puppets telling the Gospel lessons. They will be filming an accomplished puppeteer and children’s worker.
Brian and Lorraine’s daughter Charmaine, went to be with her Lord and Saviour in April, after long battle with cancer.
Dear Friends and Partners in spreading the Gospel through DVD media,
We have been reminded again that God Almighty, the Maker of heaven and earth, and the whole universe, is our Saviour and that He watches over each one of us as we live for Him and serve Him – in gratitude for all He has done for us. We have also been reminded that in Psalm 121 it says “the LORD does not slumber nor sleep” which encourages us often when the going gets tough.
We completed our first DVD for 4 to 6 year old children, using our puppets, Peter, Joy and Billy. Brian made other puppets sing a song in-between each lesson to help round off the message. We are grateful for those who helped us in this. We aimed to teach basic Bible lessons to help young children develop a relationship with God at an early age.
Since then we have been able to distribute many of these DVDs to people who are working with young children. The lessons are on: creation, our sinful nature, what the Bible is, how to talk to God in prayer and how to go to heaven when our life on earth is over. We are so glad and encouraged to know that copies of this DVD have gone to different countries of the world, e.g. to New Zealand, Australia, USA, Namibia as well as locally, to crèches and being used in Sunday Schools and holiday clubs in churches. Please pray that this DVD will challenge and lead children to their Saviour. We have already received such encouraging feedback on these DVD’s.
We have started filming volume 2 with these same puppets, with more Bible lessons, using our home studio. May God enable us to continue this audio ministry for the extension of His Kingdom and for His Glory.
As we said in our last Milner’s Memo, we were so thankful that we were able to visit Brian’s mother just before her operation. We did not know that a week later God would call her to be with Himself, on 4th December. Brian was glad that she gave him some family history that he was wanting to know about.
When we began 2013 we didn’t know what lay ahead for us. Early in the year our daughter Charmaine had a scan which showed that her liver cancer was growing and spreading into her abdomen area. By the Easter week-end she was in so much pain that she needed morphine, she wasn’t eating or speaking very much. The Lord called her “home” in the early hours of Sunday morning, on 7th April. We as a family want to thank you all for your prayers for her, over the past 5 years. We have known God’s peace and comfort at this time.
On the 19th June our granddaughter, Anastasia Zoe Milner, was born to our son Andrew and his wife Christy, in Cape Town. We rejoice at God’s special gift to the family and we give Him all the glory and praise. She is so cute and adorable and ready for lots of hugs! Mom and baby are doing well, and they are home now and settling in. It’s wonderful to be able to visit when we can, as they live near us.
Our grandson, Dale and Madge’s 16 month old Jonathan, is much better now after having been rushed to Cape Town to spend time in hospital with viral pneumonia.
Many thanks to you for your support, whether it be in prayer or financially, so that we can keep on in our ministry for our wonderful God. May God meet your needs as He has so faithfully met ours.
Yours together in His service,
Brian and Lorraine Milner
